Our History

The building at 193 Central Street in Millinocket, Maine, has had a rich history since its construction in 1901. Originally serving as a doctor's office, it later became a dental practice. Over time, the building fell into disrepair, until the 1980s when it was renovated and repurposed as office and meeting space by several different businesses. In the mid-2000s, it underwent a beautiful renovation, and several previous owners operated bed and breakfasts here. In June 2022, Melanie Cardus and Mark Dorval purchased the property, giving it a new life as The Gather Inn.

Meet The Owners

We live in South Portland, Maine, and together we have five children. Mark has been a police officer for more than twenty years, and Melanie is a social worker as well as a fitness and nutrition coach. We love the beautiful state of Maine—its stunning landscapes, vibrant seasons, and welcoming communities—and enjoy spending time with our loved ones and friends.

When we decided to purchase the inn, it was important to us to create a space that feels inviting, comfortable, and relaxing for everyone. Hosting guests in this wonderful part of the state has been a true joy, and we look forward to welcoming you to Millinocket during your stay.
